About Foreign Workers' Medical Insurance
According to the Ministry Of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore, it is mandatory to purchase a medical insurance plan for the hiring of any work permit or S Pass foreign workers. Employers have the responsibility to ensure that the hired foreign workers must be fully covered against any inpatient expenses incurred till the end of contract period.

Employers must purchase and ensure yearly maintenance of the minimum S$15,000 for employees’ inpatient coverage. This insurance covers non-work related medical expenses incurred due to hospitalisation and/or surgery during their contract period in Singapore. The covered expenses are:
- Pre-hospitalisation consultation, surgery consultation and diagnostic services (Within 3 months prior to admission)
- 4 to 6 bedder wards in Government-restructured hospitals
- Intensive Care Unit
- Surgery related fees
- Post-surgery treatment (Within 3 months after discharge)
- Death benefit
- Optional coverage against Personal accident (death & permanent disability)
Medical insurance covers hospitalisation expenses, and when the foreign worker is hospitalised due to COVID-19, except during the Stay-Home-Notice period.
Foreign Worker Medical Insurance covers non-work related inpatient medical expenses that the worker incurs. In contrast, Work Injury Compensation Insurance covers the compensation of work-related diseases and injuries.
